(CYR) -
Local veterinarian Dr. Smithers, has begun his annual campaign
against the 'Running of the Morses', a tradition of Heartsaw,
Wyoming, where horses are dressed in pants and run a quarter mile
course carrying a scarecrow as a rider. "This is an outrageous
event that harms the good name of the people of this fair city,"
said Dr. Smithers. "Horses dressed in pants, some wearing rear
training wheels, and carrying a scarecrow is not only abusive,
it's ridiculous." This year's winning horse, Count Fusser,
completed the course in 2 minutes 12 seconds, which was "pretty
good for an old nag" said his owner, who did not provide a name.
"The only reason we keep that horse around is for this annual
event. He's won 3 times since we've been running him, which is
quite a thing since the horse runs without a human rider." City
officials stated that tourism is an issue for this event, which
draws hundreds of spectators in a city that once relied on paper
bib manufacturing factories for employment but now struggles with
more than 40% unemployment. "As long as they come, the horses will
run" vowed Mayor Gracewood.
